What is psychotherapy? |
| |
You have learned that psychotherapy can be helpful in understanding your emotional pain and difficult areas in your life. Psychotherapy is the practice of understanding your feelings and experiences more deeply with a skilled and trusted professional. It offers a safe place to examine those areas of your life that don't seem to be working well. Psychotherapy allows you to explore how you have become the person you are.

How Does Psychotherapy Work? |
| |
Psychotherapy is a partnership between an individual and a professional, such as a psychologist, who is trained and licensed to help people understand their emotional experience and their behavior patterns. Individuals who are willing to work in partnership with their therapist often find relief from their emotional distress and begin to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.

How Do I Find A Therapist? |
| |
In order to make the decision regarding entering into psychotherapy you will need to schedule an appointment with a therapist or several therapists. It is important to keep looking until you have found someone you feel you can work with. Ask yourself if you felt as though you were heard and seen and if you feel that you would like to go back for additional sessions. It is important that the therapist be non-judgmental, reliable, and demonstrates an interest in what you are saying and feeling. |
